Men too are entitled to the same protection from cruelty and violence as women: Delhi High Court

27-01-2025

Introduction

In a landmark ruling, the Delhi High Court reaffirmed that men and women are entitled to equal protection under the law in cases of cruelty and violence.

The Court denied anticipatory bail to a woman accused of pouring boiling water mixed with chili powder on her husband, causing serious burn injuries. The woman sought leniency, citing her gender, but the Court dismissed this argument, asserting that gender cannot justify or excuse acts of physical violence.

The husband alleged that the wife had previously coerced him into marriage by filing a false rape case. Although the wife claimed she was subjected to torture by her husband and his family, she had not filed any formal complaint to substantiate her claims.
