Introduction

 Union Cabinet has approved draft bills to implement the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, with plans to introduce them during the ongoing Winter sessiTheon of Parliament, as per sources from PTI. The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The government intends to conduct extensive consultations on these bills, likely referring them to a parliamentary committee for further examination. This committee will also engage with Speakers of state legislative assemblies to gather diverse viewpoints.

Earlier, in September, the government accepted recommendations from a high-level committee advocating phased simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies.
